Troia Portugal Women’s Cup 2008 - Day Two
October 02 (Thursday)
Linda Rahm Leads

The crew of the Swedish Linda Rahm continues to lead the Tróia Portugal Women’s Cup, after the second day of racing. The event is organized by Sun Sailing Team and sponsored by Turismo de Portugal and Troiaresort. Rahm sum 8 wins, one more that the European Champion, the British Linda McGregor, and three of the American Sandy Hayes. Portuguese Rita Goncalves is on the 4th position, with 3 victories.

The six crews of the Tróia Portugal Women’s Cup had a complicated day by the strong wind in the Peninsula of Tróia. A total of 6 flights were disputed (3 races each) and Swedish Linda Rahm preserves their unstoppable momentum adding 8 wins and one defeat.

The superiority of the Nordic team was only called into question by the American Sandy Hayes who managed to beat them in the match of flight 4. Rahm has maneuvered the boat well and is doing excellent pre-starts.

The British Lucy McGregor, current European champion, is in 2nd position and appears as a serious candidate to be in the final with Rahm. The English team has in the American Sandy Hayes an opponent of respect but, after two days of competition, has some advantage.

The Portuguese Rita Goncalves is in 4th place, and can aspire to be in the semi-finals. The national team is the lightest of all present and may have greater difficulties if the wind rises in intensity. The crew is drawed with the French Julie Bossard, but has advantage in direct confrontation.

Still without wins is the Brazilian Caroline Béjar. The team is paying dearly the mistakes made in pre-starts and does not seem to be fully adapted to Tróias Race Course.
