2019 SAN FRANCISCO BAY MATCH RACE CLINEGATTA
Two days of coaching plus a one-day Grade 5 Regatta for Women Skippers and Open Crews
with Coaching by Allie Blecher and members of Team BAAM!

Date: July 5-7, 2019
Location: St. Francis Yacht Club, San Francisco, CA
Cost: $500/team

The Participants: This “clinegatta” is for ALL-FEMALE OR MIXED GENDER (up to 50/50 male/female) teams of four who collectively have strong racing backgrounds and some basic match racing experience. There are EIGHT spots available to qualified FEMALE SKIPPERS only. Seriously interested crew can make their availability known to organizers and skippers by posting to the event’s Potential Crew List.

The Coaching: High-performance sailor and rising star match racer Allie Blecher will lead the coaching team. She will be assisted by members of her Team BAAM! along with event organizer Nicole Breault and perhaps a few of her Vela Racing teammates. Topics will include advanced J/22 handling, rules & tactics of match racing, plus adapting strategies to the sailing conditions along the StFYC waterfront. Friday and Saturday will consist of on-the-water drills and classroom sessions, while Sunday will be an official race day.

About Allie and Team BAAM!: Allie was a four-time Collegiate All-American sailing for the College of Charleston before breaking out to compete in various performance racing circles, including the Laser Radial, 49erFX and post-college team racing. Building off some J/70 and Melges racing experience, she made her debut with Team BAAM! (Beka Schiff, Ali Blumenthal, and Meg Six) finishing 4th in the 2017 Bedanne Cup, a stop on the highly competitive WIM Series circuit. Since then, Team BAAM! has made it known they are on the hunt for glory, both nationally and internationally. They were runners-up in the 2018 US Women’s Match Racing Championship, competed in the 2019 Nations Cup Grand Final and just last February clinched another silver in the lion’s den of sailing at the New Zealand Women’s National Championship. If you aren’t convinced on the basis of racing prowess, then Allie also brings a whole slew of coaching to the table. Before recently getting a job in the aerospace industry, she ran the Alamitos Bay YC youth sailing program and she remains a regular guru at annual CISA clinic.

To Apply: Applications open at noon on April 23 at stfyc.com → Sailing → Racing→ July. Invitations will be issued on a rolling basis, starting April 29.
