Sundance Cup – Day Three
(Written by Karen Smith, Fort Worth Boat Club - www.fwbc.com)

As predicted, the winds clocked to the north with cooler temperatures and overcast skies for today’s matches. The course was moved to the west of Fort Worth Boat Club and Flight 3 of RR 2 resumed at 0900. Contrary to predictions, the wind did not lay enough to guarantee the use of spinnakers and they were allowed only sporadically through the day as gusts continued to reach the low twenties.

The second round robin was completed in the early afternoon and participants came in to the Clubhouse for a brief period to evaluate boats and choose the best four for the semis. Molly Carapiet won an 11.1(b) tie-break against Kristen Lane, both San Francisco teams finishing with 12 points. In third place with 11 wins was Jo Ann Fisher of Annapolis and Rebecca Beard, also from San Francisco rounded out the semi-final contenders with 6 points.

Good wind prevailed with some light rain, but the semi-final round was completed in time for showers, a group photo and wildlife exhibition and finally dinner and a preview of the Sundance Cup perpetual trophy as well as the exquisite special award presented annually by Paul Bregenzer for unique and entertaining situations on the racecourse.

Pairings for tomorrow’s matches are:

Finals – Carapiet vs Lane
Petit-Finals – Beard vs Fisher

Racing is scheduled to resume at 0900 and be completed in time for Opening Day ceremonies at FWBC in the early afternoon.
